Some Helpful Tips In Choosing The Right CCTV Cameras

CCTV Cameras are popularly used in commercial and official establishments. They are designed for monitoring and surveillance purposes. CCTV Industrial Cameras and CCTV hidden cameras, for example, are used to monitor the activities and happenings inside factories and similar work environments. With these, business owners will be able to keep an eye on how their employees work and also they can address any issues with regards to safety and security as well. While these cameras are used for businesses, that doesn’t mean they can’t be used for homes as well. In fact, many security companies have started producing CCTV home cameras too! Now, homeowners can also benefit from using these types of cameras in their home.

For those who are looking for CCTV cams and equipment for their home, you need to consider a few important things first before making any purchase. They are as follows:

In order for your CCTV Cameras to be effective, you need to make sure that they have good resolution. There are CCTV cameras for sale out there that are able to capture colored-videos and there are also those that can capture HD quality videos as well. The advantage of high resolution cameras over the low-res varieties is that you will be able to get clearer images. This is a good thing especially if you want to get a good look of people coming in and out of your home.

Where you place the cameras can greatly affect the way you protect your home. It is important that you place these cameras within strategic locations around your home. For instance, installing CCTV outdoor cameras on the entrance and exit points of your home is an effective way for you to deter burglars and thieves from getting in. The moment they notice the presence of CCTV Cameras on your entrance and exit points, they’ll be reluctant to break into your home and move to another target instead. Using CCTV fake cameras outdoors can work as a deterrent too!

When shopping for a CCTV cam for your home, you also need to consider whether it is equipped with the functions and features necessary in keeping your home protected. For instance there are wired and CCTV wireless cameras and cameras equipped with night vision functions. Then, there are also those that make use of motion-detection technology and CCTV cameras with audio as well.

CCTV Terminology

If you run a business that has its own premises then making sure that you have some form of CCTV in place is a necessity. This will help you in many ways to protect your business from theft or vandalism acting as both a deterrent and as an early warning system and a way of aiding the police in their investigation and providing evidence in court. If you have CCTV in your building them you can prevent the majority of criminals from trying to break in, catch the majority that do red handed and track down any in the slight chance that they get through.

However going about installing CCTV can be quite tricky for those new to the subject when so few people understand all of the different terminology and jargon surrounding the subject. There are a vast range of different CCTV systems and knowing which is which and what you need to look out for can be complicated. To make matters a little easier, here is a guide to just some of the terms.

CCTV: CCTV itself stands for ‘Closed Circuit Television’ – in other words it means that you have video footage that is not designed to be broadcast but that remains within the ‘closed circuit’ of your building. Today that circuit is more a metaphor as some footage is now streamed.

Analogue CCTV: Analogue is the opposite to digital – in other words it doesn’t use a computer or programming or electrical signals in the same way that say digital TV or digital radio does. This is an outmoded form of CCTV that only has limited uses today.

Digital CCTV: This is more like it – this is what most modern and serious organizations will use in order to protect their company and it creates data that can be saved on a computer or memory card or which can be streamed live.

IP CCTV: IP CCTV stands for ‘internet protocol’. It means that the footage is sent wirelessly to be picked up by another computer or saved at a remote server. This also means that you have no wires for your IP CCTV and that means that you are less restricted with where you can place your cameras and you will be able to move the cameras with ease when necessary (due to a redecoration for instance).

Wireless CCTV: Wireless CCTV is any form of CCTV that has no wires – such as IP CCTV.

VoIP CCTV: This stands for ‘Voice IP CCTV’ and essentially means that you have a camera that doesn’t only film footage but also sound. That then means that you can listen to what is happening on your premises, and it means that you can broadcast your own voice to ask people on-site for status reports etc.

Video Analysis: Video analysis means that your footage can be analyzed by a computer in order to look out for things that are out of the ordinary or alarming. For instance video analysis might sound an alarm if it sees movement that appears human in nature.

CCTV Security Systems – What the Future Holds

CCTV, or closed-circuit television, has been a mainstay of security systems for decades. However, today’s CCTV security systems have significant advantages as compared to previous years. As technology improves, so, too, does CCTV’s capabilities.

IP video security

Today’s security systems utilize CCTV security cameras that utilize Internet protocol technologies. IP CCTV video security systems have better resolution than traditional analog systems do, more flexible installation, and easier to use features.

Marry analog technology and CCTV security systems’ technology

It can be expensive to completely replace old analog CCTV systems with new IP-based ones, but fortunately, you don’t have to. You can integrate analog systems with new IP technology by utilizing a hybrid platform. This gives you all of the benefits of the newer technology and is a more cost effective option as compared to completely “starting over” with new equipment.

Advantages of CCTV security systems technology

Whether you decide to completely replace your old analog CCTV systems with new completely IP-based CCTV systems or simply do an integration of old and new technology, you’ll find significant advantages:

· Inexpensive, easy to set up and maintain

Today, it’s easy to buy and set up CCTV security cameras and related systems, and very easy to maintain, as well. Because today’s CCTV security systems are digital in nature, they’re much easier to manage. The information received from them is much more easily stored, and much less corruptible. Information is recorded on a DVR recorder with CCTV security cameras, instead of on tapes that can be easily damaged. You can also download the information from the recorder to a computer, and if you need to save the data long-term, you can burn it to a CD.

While technology for analog TGV security systems remained relatively high-priced and the recording equipment bulky and hard to manage, today’s CCTV cameras and other equipment have shrunk in size and price while expanding in capability, meaning that you can have very sophisticated equipment at a very modest price. Although you may want cameras clearly in view for security reasons, the cameras themselves are also very small, meaning that they can be placed just about anywhere for complete coverage.

· Continuous recording from all cameras

While older analog systems that used tape generally only did time lapse recording, newer CCTV security cameras can record continuously, and the information can be captured and saved from all cameras. This allows business owners, for example, to track data from all sources and to keep historical records; analog tapes, by contrast, were usually ultimately taped over, sometimes causing loss of valuable information.

· Customizable

Because today’s CCTV security systems and CCTV security cameras can be bought in in an endless variety of configurations, sizes, and functions, you can choose your system based on your needs. In addition, as your business grows, it’s easy to expand your system for more coverage as you need it. And because this technology is so inexpensive, you can grow your system as you need to, without the worries about expense, flexibility, or storage space traditional systems might give you.

Things To Keep In Mind When Choosing CCTV For Your Home

Choosing the right kind of CCTV to be used on your home is a very important decision to make. It is not something that you should take lightly; you need to consider a lot of things which will determine the overall security you will have at home. With the right CCTV security system, you will be able to keep your family, belongings, valuables and your home safe and secured. You won’t stress a lot over the safety of your family and your home while you’re away at the office or on vacation. Furthermore, CCTV security systems allow you to keep track of what happens on your property. However, if you choose the wrong type of CCTV camera systems, you’ll end up compromising the safety and security of not only your family and belongings but yourself as well. With the wrong type of CCTV system, you’ll end up losing a lot of money and incurring damages to your property.

But, with so many different types of CCTV cameras available on the market nowadays, how does one even begin on the task of choosing the right CCTV for the home? This article will discuss some of the basic things that you need to consider when choosing the right kind of home CCTV systems for you.

One of the first things that you need to decide on is whether you should use analog or digital CCTV security cameras for your home. Both types of systems are widely used in businesses and residences and they offer different kinds of benefits as well. But what is the difference between these two types of CCTV systems?

The difference between digital and analog CCTV surveillance systems is in the way they record and store information. Digital CCTV allows files to be stored into an internal memory device such as a memory card while analog cameras record videos onto a VHS recorder which means you will need a lot of blank tapes to cover a lot of video footage. Also, analog cameras only allow you to record from one camera at a time. Furthermore, there are a lot of limitations with what you can do with the footage if you use analog cameras. The better and more practical choice between the two would be digital cameras.

The next thing you need to consider would be the resolution and file size. Higher resolution CCTV products are often more expensive than the regular priced or cheap CCTV cameras, but on the plus side, they can provide you with larger file sizes. This means that you can make out the face of the intruder, criminals or thieves that has broken inside your home. This will make it easier for you and the police to identify and arrest the criminals right away.

Finally, you also need to decide whether or not to use wired or CCTV wireless cameras. Wired CCTV might be equipped with more sophisticated features but they tend to be very unreliable since they become affected with power interruptions and blackouts. If you want a more reliable type of surveillance and monitoring for your home, use the wireless varieties.

If you have finally decided to buy CCTV, make sure to check the level of quality the product has before you make a purchase. You might find yourself saving money with cheap CCTV but you’ll end up compromising your family’s safety in the process. Also, look for a reliable CCTV installer to handle the installation of the device on your home.

But, nowadays, many homeowners can now use home CCTV systems for them to protect themselves, their family and their properties from criminals.

Just by placing CCTV within strategic locations inside and outside their homes, homeowners will be able to deter and prevent criminals from breaking in and stealing their stuff. Seasoned criminals will often try to assess a home first before they reach a point that they will decide to break in, once they see that your house is equipped with the latest CCTV surveillance systems, they will move on to another target instead.

CCTV systems will also encourage your visitors or hired personnel to be in their best behaviour when they’re inside your house. With so many different CCTV products out there today it is important that you only choose the one that suits your needs better.

10 Tips on Shopping for CCTV Cameras

If you are in the market for a CCTV package for your home or SME, you are definitely making the right choice. CCTV cameras offer security and peace of mind. When burglars or miscreants target homes or businesses, CCTV video footage can help identify the crime and criminals instantly. Surveillance studies conducted in cities, especially crime prone regions, suggest that installing CCTV cameras act as a crime deterrent, and media reports suggest a marked decrease in the number of crime cases reported from areas where CCTV cameras are operational.

Once you have made the decision to purchase and install CCTV cameras, the next step is shopping for the best fit. With so many options available, how do you decide what works best for you? Price can be one deciding factor. Many websites offer new economical CCTV camera packages, starting as low as USD $599. With price points for every budget, buying a CCTV package does not need to be an expensive ordeal. A first time buyer will encounter countless options: What kind of camera resolution or viewing resolution is best? What are the best viewing frame rates? Do I need night vision? How much video recording capacity and video storage capacity will I require?

In this article, we break down these terms for you and help you decide the best CCTV package for your needs:

1. CCTV camera resolution

Most tech savvy users wield phone cameras and video camcorders and discuss megapixels and camera resolutions like a pro. However, when researching CCTV camera packages, you may come across the term TVL or TV lines. What are these? Well, most CCTV cameras operate on the analog camera or analog television system. Therefore, instead of pixels, we talk in terms of TV lines. We understand that higher the pixels, better the image quality we receive. Similarly, the more the TV lines (subject to size of lens, light, and so on), you will receive better picture quality on your CCTV camera. For most home and business security purposes, camera resolutions may range from 420 to 700 TV lines. In fact, 700 TV lines is the maximum you may find. Once you enter the digital CCTV field, you may find pricier options with much higher resolution cameras.

2. Internet viewing resolution

Internet viewing resolution uses CIF (Common Intermediate Format) as a measurement unit. It defines a video sequence with a resolution such as 352 X 288 that maybe converted for viewing in PAL or NTSC formats. Confused? Let us try that again. Your camera captures an image at a certain rate called frames per second. The CIF resolution refers to how your DVR records this image or sequence of images. In a nascent hard drive or hard disk industry, storage was expensive. Naturally, people preferred to compromise and capture low-resolution images by sacrificing 4 CIF and maximum frame rate. With video storage turning cost efficient, you can now capture images on 4 CIF and get maximum detail. As the name suggests, 4CIF offers almost 4 times the size of the image and is especially beneficial in places such as front desks, doorways, bank operations, and so on, for facial recognition and clarity in images. In other areas, where you prefer fluid action and no lapse in capture of movements, you may resort to CIF while recording.

3. Internet viewing frame rate

We talked about frame rate (frames per second) in terms of captured video footage and its quality. The concept remains the same no matter what kind of video capturing device you may use. The device actually captures snapshots and replays them back in quick succession making it look like a fluid movement or action. Generally, in CCTV camera package terms, anything above 30 fps would provide a smooth footage without any jerks. Many places now offer exceptional deals on even 120 fps CCTV camera packages making it as ‘real time’ as it can get.

4. All weather CCTV cameras

While shopping for a CCTV package, you may want to consider the placement of cameras. Depending on if you want cameras mounted outdoors or indoors, you may choose from a wide variety of waterproof cameras. Waterproof cameras are better able to withstand damage caused due to rain, snow, and humidity. Some weatherproof cameras may come with a sealed glass enclosure to protect it from environmental damages. Another advantage of sealed weatherproof cameras includes protection from dirt or dust, floating debris, and humidity, even in enclosed spaces such as large warehouses, storage facilities, and inside factories, auto repair shops, and so on.

5. Day and night recording

Whether you are considering an investment in CCTV cameras for your home or business, you may want to look at cameras that offer night vision and 24-hour day and night recording. Break-ins, thefts, and vandalizing property happen often in the nighttime, and poor visibility is the number one reason criminals go free. Night vision and infrared cameras capture quality image despite dark surroundings. They provide better definition of objects, people, or animals, and make recognition and identification easy. Area of focus, angle of installation, lens size, and pan tilt zoom (PTZ) features may determine the efficiency of night vision CCTV cameras. Installation of infrared cameras may also require set up at night using infrared lighting or simulate nighttime conditions. If you are considering 24/7 recording, it is also important to look at DVRs with max storage and back up accordingly.

6. Online viewing

Many security and surveillance companies offer client-centric features that go beyond installation and maintenance. One such feature includes registering a domain name with your security company and having them set up a personalized website to view your property anytime anywhere through a PC, tablet, or your web-enabled cell phone. Just type in your specific URL, and you will be linked to your CCTV protected property, home or business instantly and in real time. This is especially great if you want to keep an eye on your business while you travel or watch out for your children, pets, or even the elderly while you are at work.

7. Tracking via smart phones

With smart phones stepping up to meet the personal computer challenge, it is not surprising that security companies now offer wireless tracking through your web-enabled smart phones. Creating a domain name with a specific URL allows you to personalize the security viewing system on your smart phone. You do not have to download any external apps or software for this purpose. The security system companies selling you these CCTV packages may offer these features for a nominal price.

8. Video compression

An important aspect of CCTV installation includes compressing large video data into a format that can be easily stored or transmitted. Compressed data needs to undergo through the reverse process for viewing. Standardizing this process allows various different devices to inter operate with each other efficiently. In the CCTV industry, the gold standard is H.264 compression used by various different HD and Blu-Ray disc players, streaming video formats, and other Internet applications. CCTV cameras using H.264 video compression ensures the absolute best quality of video footage transmission.

9. Alert systems: Message or email, motion detection

CCTV cameras allow you to capture images as they happen or an additional feature called motion detection maybe added or purchased with your CCTV cameras. In the latter case, only movement in front of the camera prompts image capture and recording. Motion detection comes handy if you prefer to use less disk space for recording. In a designated quiet area, sudden movements maybe recorded making it easy to store minimum data and review it later. Many motion detector cameras maybe pre installed with an alarm or sound system that maybe triggered by movement. Some surveillance companies may also provide an email alert system that warns you of intrusion or movement in a monitored area.

10. Recording and storing

Any CCTV package is incomplete without a reliable DVR system that can record and store your data for future reference. Online recording and viewing allows you to look at your monitored area on a specially designated domain. Remote monitoring is possible on your computer as well as your smart phone. Offline recording and storing requires hard disk space, which can maybe purchased according to your needs. Some hard disks range from 500 GB all the way to 2 TB and may allow you to store your video data for up to 12 months.
